Finally watched OUaT

I have thoughts, they have probably already been said, but I still want/need to share them.

I was disappointed with the episode. Not because the story wasn’t good, but because it wasn’t executed well. I know what they were trying to portray. Regina was an abused child, who found real love, but was “betrayed” and thus lost her love which in turn made her evil. However, this wasn’t shown properly! The only way I really got this was because of the acting, not the actual story arc or the dialogue. Ask yourself this, why is it that Ruby (who is a wolf and actually killed a WHOLE bunch of people) gets all the sympathy, but Regina doesn’t? Because Ruby doesn’t control it and Regina supposedly does. However, she doesn’t. She is not in control of her hate. THAT is what this episode was supposed to prove. Imagine how much pain she must have felt and been through, growing up with an abusive mother and a father who let it all happen (frankly, it’s the stuff serial killers are made off). All of that pain can quite easily turn into uncontrollable anger. The moment she lost that control was when Snow told her she had shared her secret with the one person she fears the most and had thus “betrayed” her. Lana acted this perfectly (and in some of the reviews that I’ve read this is what is picked up upon), but the story that came before wasn’t good enough.

This is all my opinion of course, but I truly wish it has been done better. This episode hit very close to home and maybe that’s why I felt it so strongly. I have experienced that transference of anger and trust me, it can go entirely unnoticed. Here are some random thoughts on the episode.

  • That scene between Regina and Mary Margaret was some powerful shit man. Jeez! When Regina stroked her face and then grabed it and revealed that she knew Mary Margaret hasn’t killed Kathryn. BAM. Acting genius. On both sides. It rivaled the Mr. Gold/Regina jail scene, which I still say is the best scene of this show.
  • August is Henry grown up. Right? I mean, look at how he looks at Emma! With so much admiration… I really need to stop speculating on this show.
  • Ginnifer Goodwin is frakking awesome. So are Jennifer and Lana. The three of them in that scene where Mary Margaret is questioned by the DA? Good stuff.
  • Regina’s indignant attitude in the scene with the shovel is just so funny! She like “Moi!? Never!”. Even though everybody knows that she did do it. Lol.
  • Mr. Gold. You conniving bastard. I still say you’re the true source of evil.
  • Was I the only one that never even for a second thought Kathryn was dead? I don’t know, I was just never actually concerned, I knew she’d turn back up.

Anyway, long post is long. Lemme reblog some awesome gifs now!

Is it bad that the more evil Regina gets the more I love her?

Everybody just seems so meek and subservient next to her.

Her interaction with Kathryn was so telling. Kathryn saying she wasn’t a good friend hurt her, so by the time she came around again to apologize the damage was already done. And during that second talk you could literally see her face go from stone-faced mayor who is being blind-sided by her friend to evil plans brewing inside my gorgeous head. Lol. I couldn’t describe it any other way.

OUaT Thoughts

I absolutely loved this episode. Here are some reasons why.

  • Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney story. I don’t know about the fairytale because I simply haven’t read everything about it, but I would say it will always reside in the top 3 for me. Making Rumpelstiltskin the Beast was ingenious and I actually greatly enjoyed how it worked in the confides of the show. Even better is how they worked it out. Here is one instance where the fairytale world mirrored the Storybrooke world, I wonder what the significance of that will be…
  • I gotta be honest though, Emilie de Ravin does nothing for me. No matter who they would’ve gotten I would never have liked her as Belle, but the poor girl truly is no match for Robert Carlyle.
  • There was minimal Henry. I am sorry, but in my book that always make for a better episode.
  • Emma showed up with her awesome WTF face again and actually did really well being the Sheriff. The scene with all the girls in the dinner, Ashley, Ruby, Mary Margaret and Emma was a great showcase for female comradery. Now if only it wasn’t only over men. I do hope they show more of those friendships.
  • Mary Margaret really is an amazing character. Seeing the happiness of a couple that can be together freely hurt her so visibly. She does deserve better and I love that she knows that, but she also can not stay away from David. For now, this conflict is still working well for me.
  • The scene between Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin and Regina in the jail was by far the best scene this show has shown us. Lana and Robert act the shit out of every scene they are in, but put them together and you get some mighty fine television. We now also know that Mr. Gold is fully aware of what is going on. The plot thickens and twists. Good stuff!
  • Speaking of little Miss Evil, I know she is my absolute favourite so I am biased, but this episode only highlighted why Regina Mills is the best character on this show. The more evil she gets, the more I love her and the more I want to know about her. I won’t go into it too much, cause really I could write a book on this character, but her face throughout this whole episode was magnificent. She concocted a little plan and it worked and she revelled in her victory. Quite a sight to see. Also, can I be that nurse?

The main thing for me with this episode was that the plot was actually really interesting. The introduction of Belle and the character arc of Rumpelstiltskin was the main plot of this episode, but none of the other characters were forgotten and almost all the plotlines were advanced. OUaT has shown potential to be a great show, but this is the first time (IMO) it was actually displayed throughout the entire episode.

Mirror, Mirror on the wall

I could never ever hate Regina. Not even at all.

Here is what I do not understand about Once Upon A Time; it operates under the assumption that the Evil Queen is the source of all the misery in Storybrooke and that Regina Mills IS the Evil Queen, however the people in the town do not know this and therefore go about their lives as usual. Correct? Then why do most of them treat Regina the way they do?

I’ll put it under the cut, cause I may have gone on a bit. Included are my thoughts on the latest episode.

Her irritation in this scene is just how I envision Regina to be. Regina Mills, and even in small part the Evil Queen as well, but thats another discussion. She just wants everything to go her way so very badly and when it doesn’t she gets frustrated. I know the emotion well. This is also precisely why I have such a difficult time envisioning her as “evil”. Saying somebody is evil, over and over again, does not actually make them evil. She’s just a massive control freak and wants things to go her way, she gets completely taken up in that and it’s what drives her. Yes she does evil things, but I just can’t believe she is evil.
