Mirror, Mirror on the wall
I could never ever hate Regina. Not even at all.
Here is what I do not understand about Once Upon A Time; it operates under the assumption that the Evil Queen is the source of all the misery in Storybrooke and that Regina Mills IS the Evil Queen, however the people in the town do not know this and therefore go about their lives as usual. Correct? Then why do most of them treat Regina the way they do?
I’ll put it under the cut, cause I may have gone on a bit. Included are my thoughts on the latest episode.
Are we supposed to assume that they somehow feel her evil? Cause I personally do not see her do anything that is out of line. Yes yes, I know she crushed old Graham’s glowing red heart and now she’s working with Sidney to annoy Emma, but nobody knows this.
Plus when Sidney was talking with Emma he said “After what she did to Henry. To me. And to you” (I am paraphrasing, but that’s basically what he said). What is this “what” that they are referring to exactly!? Like, I am seriously confused. What is this great wrong that Regina has done to them! (Besides ya know the curse, but they don’t remember that!). Emma supposedly doesn’t believe Henry’s book, so that can’t be it. Every time Regina has been in Emma’s way it has been because of a legitimate reason. Other then that she has been rather cordial to Emma, especially considering that this strange woman came into her town and started acting as a mother to her son. That has gotta be hard, no matter how big of a brat her son is (honestly, Regina is nice to that kid, if he was mine…). Emma ran off with Regina’s boyfriend (the lovely deceased sherrif) and yeah they had a little tiff, but ya know, that was all in context.
I read on someone else’s blog (I can’t remember which one, I am sorry) that for now it seems that it is the whole town against Regina except for the other way around. This is a story, a narrative, you can not simply present something as truth and not be expected to provide context. An explanation as to why. They are doing that in the fairytale world, but in the mean in the real world there is no explanation what so ever to anybodies behaviour. It just seems off.
I asked a friend about this, who is not as obsessed with Regina is as I am, and she agreed with me. She was just as confused. As well she should be.
Meanwhile Henry still bothers me so very much. What is up with this kid!? He is not precocious, just insanely annoying. I find his behaviour towards Emma and Regina baffling, but maybe that is just me. The stranger mystery guy? I think he has a connection to Henry (somehow he is his dad?) and I think maybe he wrote the book. Mary Margeret is also still my favourite character after Regina. She’s the only other 3 dimensional character. She has a clear head and she knows that what she is doing is wrong, but she loves David so much, she can’t not be with him. Ugh, I love the angst!
I guess the point to all this is, is that I don’t know why more people aren’t questioning this. Yes, the Evil Queen is evil, but it is very clear that they are stearing towards a storyline that will explain why she is how she is. And I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this woman conveys too many emotions to be truly evil. Bad maybe, but not beyond redemption. As for Regina, she is doing everything in her power to stay in control. This is something I think most people can relate to. Add to that the fact that she is raising a son who treats her like crap. I’d say her “bitchy” behaviour is very easily explained.
So yeah, I love Regina Mills/The Evil Queen. That is all.
